Even though this is a heterogeneous group, the characteristics of one of the ancestors (N. tazetta) are still fairly recognisable. These narcissi always have 4 to 8 flowers to a stem, and all are sweetly perfumed. One cultivar, ‘Cragford’, is somewhat susceptible to frost damage.

The world-famous Paperwhite narcissus also belongs to this group. This strongly scented narcissus is not winter hardy but is perfect for producing flowers in a short period of time when grown indoors. In climatic zones 9 and 10, however, they can also be planted outside in the garden. The other cultivars in this group are suitable as garden plants, especially for placement among perennial plants or for cutting.

Most significant cultivars

  • ‘Geranium’: white perianth, orange cup
  • ‘Grand Soleil d’Or’*: golden yellow, orange cup
  • ‘Laurens Koster’: white-yellow
  • ‘Minnow’+: lemon-yellow, golden-yellow cup
