Depending on the bulb size, three to five bell-shaped flowers dangle from each long, fairly sturdy flower stem. Summer snowflakes require a moist habitat (e.g., on the edge of natural ponds). ‘Gravetye Giant’ has large flowers on stems that easily reach a length of 50 to 60 cm.
Summer snowflake bulbs are much more available than those of Spring snowflakes. The bulbs can remain planted in the same location year after year. If left undisturbed, they produce more and more flowers. Planting them on time in October is essential if you want to enjoy lots of flowers in the following spring. The soil must be high in nutrients.
