Recipes

It’s sometimes difficult to figure out which bulbs should be combined in a planting to produce the kind of look you want in your garden. Here are some “garden recipes” for traditional, contemporary and charming gardens. The recipes have been designed for borders, balcony containers and pots.

Contemporary

Contemporary garden 1 (Spring)

This is a recipe for a 6 m2 border.

Ingredients:
-30 Tulipa ‘Strong Gold’
-30 Tulipa ‘Couleur Cardinal’
-60 Narcissus ‘Petrel’

Instructions:
Distribute all three kinds evenly over the surface and then plant them at a depth of about 12 cm.

Time to plant:
October

This is a recipe for a 75×15-cm container.

Ingredients:
-25 Narcissus ‘Petrel’
-25 Anemone blanda ‘White Splendour’
Shards or clay granules, potting compost

Instructions:
Place the shards or clay granules on the bottom and then add a 5-cm layer of potting compost. Plant the later flowering daffodils as the bottom layer. Cover with potting compost and then arrange the earlier flowering anemones on top. Fill to the rim with potting
compost.

Time to plant:
October.

This is a recipe for a pot with a diameter of 35-cm pot and a height of 25 cm.

Ingredients:
-20 Tulipa ‘Couleur Cardinal’
-40 Anemone blanda ‘White Splendour’
Shards or clay granules, potting compost

Instructions:
Place the shards or clay granules on the bottom and then add a 10-cm layer of potting compost. Plant the later flowering tulips as the lower layer, cover with potting compost, and plant the earlier flowering anemones on top. Fill to the rim with potting compost.

-30 Tulipa ‘White Dream’
-40 Hyacinthus ‘White Festival’

Instructions:

Ingredients:
-15 Hyacinthus ‘White Festival’
-30 Muscari aucheri ‘Mont Blanc’ (grape hyacinths)
shards or clay granules, potting compost

Instructions:
Place the shards or clay granules on the bottom and then add a 5-cm layer of potting compost. Plant the hyacinths as the lower layer, cover with potting compost, and distribute the grape hyacinths over the top. Fill to the rim with potting compost.

This is a recipe for a pot with a diameter of 35-cm pot and a height of 25 cm

Ingredients:
-10 Tulipa ‘White Dream’
-15 Narcissus ‘Sailboat’
-35 Muscari aucheri ‘Mont Blanc’ (grape hyacinths)
shards or clay granules, potting compost

Instructions:
Place the shards or clay granules on the bottom and then add a 10-cm layer of potting compost. Plant the latest flowering variety (Tulipa ‘White Dream’), cover with potting compost and arrange the daffodils on top of the compost. Cover again with potting compost
and arrange the grape hyacinths as the top layer. Fill to the rim with potting compost.

Time to plant:

Charming

Inviting garden 1 (Spring)

This is a recipe for a 6 m2 border.

Ingredients:
-20 Allium nigrum, planting depth 12 cm
-250 Fritillaria meleagris, planting depth 8 cm
-100 Fritillaria pallidiflora, planting depth 8 cm

Instructions:
Distribute the alliums in groups of 1 to 3 bulbs among the existing plants; mix the fritillary varieties and distribute them evenly in smaller and larger groups among the existing plants.

Time to plant:
October.

This is a recipe for a 75×15-cm container.

Ingredients:
-15 Narcissus ‘Tête-à-Tête’
-15 Hyacinthus ‘Prince Jewel’
shards or clay granules, potting compost

Instructions:
Place the shards or clay granules on the bottom and then add a 5-cm layer of potting compost. Plant the later flowering hyacinths as the lower layer, cover with potting compost, and arrange the earlier flowering daffodils over the top. Fill to the rim with potting compost.

Time to plant:
October.

This is a recipe for a 35-cm pot with a height of 25 cm.

Ingredients:
-20 Tulipa ‘Hollywood’
-15 Hyacinthus ‘Prince Jewel’ pink Forget-me-not plants shards or clay granules, potting compost

Instructions:
Place the shards or clay granules on the bottom and then add a 10-cm layer of potting compost. Plant the later flowering tulips as the lower layer, cover with potting compost, and arrange the earlier flowering hyacinths over the top. Fill to the rim with potting compost and then carefully plant the forget-me-nots among the bulbs.

Time to plant:

This is a recipe for a 6 m2 border.

Ingredients:
-30 Tulipa ‘Peach Blossom’, planting depth 12 cm
-30 Tulipa ‘Montreux’, planting depth 12 cm
-30 Tulipa ‘Monte Carlo’, planting depth 12 cm

Instructions:
Mix all the tulip varieties in a wheelbarrow, scatter them among the perennials, and plant them wherever they land for a natural, nonchalant effect.

Time to plant:
October/November.

This is a recipe for a 75×15 cm container.

Ingredients:
-20 Narcissus ‘W.P. Milner’
-15 Narcissus ‘Bridal Crown’ shards or clay granules, potting compost

Instructions:
Place the shards or clay granules on the bottom and then add a 5-cm layer of soil. Plant the later flowering Narcissus ‘Bridal Crown, cover with soil, and arrange the earlier flowering Narcissus ‘W.P. Milner’ over the top. Fill to the rim with potting compost.

Time to plant:
October/November.

Pot: recipe for a pot with a diameter of 35-cm pot and a height of 25 cm.

Ingredients:
-15 Hyacinthus ‘Yellow Queen’
-20 Narcissus ‘W.P. Milner’
-10 white pansies

Instructions:
Place the shards or clay granules on the bottom
and then add a 10-cm layer of potting compost. Plant the later flowering Hyacinthus ‘Yellow Queen’, cover with soil, and arrange the
Narcissus ‘W.P. Milner’ over the soil to make the upper layer. Fill to the rim with potting compost.

Time to plant:
October. Next spring, plant the pansies carefully between them.

Traditional

Traditional garden 1 (Spring)

This is a recipe for a 6 m2 border.

Ingredients:
-70 Tulipa ‘Strong Gold’, planting depth 12 cm
-70 Tulipa ‘Calypso’, planting depth 12 cm
-70 Narcissus ‘Bridal Crown’, planting depth 12 cm
pink Forget-me-not plants

Instructions:
Distribute the tulips and daffodils evenly over the border and plant them at the indicated depth.

Time to plant:
October. Next spring, plant the forget-me-nots carefully between them.

-20 Narcissus ‘W.P. Milner’
-15 Narcissus ‘Bridal Crown’ shards or clay granules, potting compost

Instructions:
Place the shards or clay granules on the bottom and then add a 5-cm layer of soil. Plant the later flowering Narcissus ‘Bridal Crown, cover with soil, and arrange the earlier flowering Narcissus ‘W.P. Milner’ over the top. Fill to the rim with potting compost.

Place the shards or clay granules on the bottom and then add a 10-cm layer of potting compost. Plant the later flowering Hyacinthus ‘Yellow Queen’, cover with soil, and arrange the Narcissus ‘W.P. Milner’ over the soil to make the upper layer. Fill to the rim with potting compost.

Time to plant:
October. Next spring, plant the pansies carefully between them.

Ingredients:
-20 Allium atropurpureum, planting depth 15 cm
-30 Ornithogalum ‘White Star’, planting depth 12 cm
-60 Hyacinthus ‘Aiolos’, planting depth 12 cm
-30 white Forget-me-not plants

Instructions:
Distribute the alliums and ornithogalum bulbs evenly over the border and scatter the hyacinths over the empty spots.

Time to plant:
October. Next spring, plant the forget-me-nots carefully between them.

This is a recipe for a 75×15 cm container.

Ingredients:
-15 Hyacinthus ‘Blue Pearl’
-30 Muscari armeniacum shards or clay granules, potting compost

Instructions:
Place the shards or clay granules on the bottom and then add a 5-cm layer of potting compost. Plant the hyacinths as the lower layer, cover with potting compost, and arrange the muscari (grape hyacinths) over the top. Fill to the rim with potting compost.

Time to plant:

This is a recipe for a 35-cm pot with a height of 25 cm.

Ingredients:
-20 Tulipa ‘Cheers’
-30 Allium neapolitanum shards or clay granules, potting compost

Instructions:
Place the shards or clay granules on the bottom and then add a 10-cm layer of potting compost. Plant the alliums as the lower layer, cover with potting compost, and arrange the tulips over the soil to make the upper layer. Fill to the rim with potting compost.
