Stunning borders with colourful spring blooms

Sometimes it feels like winter will never end. But then all of a sudden, the first spring blooms pop up. This is the sign we have been waiting for so long: spring is on its way! Shake off the dreary winter blues with colourful spring blooms and look ahead, ready for spring.

Gorgeous and colourful

If you want your garden to welcome you to spring with lots of colour, plant bulbs in autumn. Spring-flowering bulbs need a cold period to be able to bloom in spring. So, it is time to start thinking about what colours and types you want. Familiar varieties such as tulips, hyacinths, crocuses, alliums and daffodils are always a popular choice, but there are many other unusual bulbs that will create a stunning border. For example: anemones, squills (Scilla), Fritillaria, Camassia, foxtail lilies (Eremurus) and Ornithogalum. The choice is virtually endless!

A riot of colour, or subdued hues?

Will you go for a garish colour show or do you prefer colours that are more coordinated? Whatever your choice, you can create a colourful border with lots and lots of different flowers. Don ‘t be afraid to go all out! For a colourful mix, choose bulbs in at least four different colours. You can also vary with different bulb types. If you prefer more subdued colours, choose up to three colours and mix things up with the varieties.

Flowers throughout the spring

If you want to have flowers in the garden throughout all of spring, choose early bloomers as well as late bloomers, so you will have a beautiful border throughout the spring. Buy your bulbs at a garden centre, nursery, mail order, supermarket, DIY store or order your favourite colours and varieties online and pick a beautiful autumn day. Mix your bulbs and plant them among existing greenery in the garden for a stunning border come springtime.
